The Medicines Information (MI) service supports medicines management by offering advice on any aspect of drug therapy. The team provides evaluated information to help support evidence-based practice and give practical advice on the choice and administration of medicines to doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

The HEFT MI Service currently handles in excess of 3000 enquiries each year and works to standards set by UKMi (national Medicines Information service).

The team provides the service to all healthcare professionals based within the Trust and also run a Medicines Helpline for patients who have been discharged from the Trust if they have any concerns over their discharge medicines.

The service is staffed by qualified Pharmacists who are skilled and experienced in locating, assessing and interpreting information about medicines. Together with their own clinical knowledge, MI Pharmacists have access to a wide range of information resources including textbooks, journals, electronic databases, as well as access to specialist advice. We have access to external resources including the pharmaceutical industry, national guidance/organisations, clinical practice groups i.e. Royal Pharmaceutical Society, United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association.
